I came out of hiding to help spread the word on this beautiful new cookbook. I have sort of been on a hiatus these days. There is just honestly not enough time in the day now that I am back to work full time and have the two babes. Well I guess there is time but I just don't always want to spend it baking, photographing and writing. What do I do instead... well some nights I clean (not because I want too), I have been knitting myself a cowl very slowly, I work out 5-6 days a week, and then sometimes I just want to sit on the couch and watch tv. Weekends are full of holidays, birthdays and random events to keep kids busy. And so is life.... but I would rather share with you recipes once a month that pump out garbage every day. <br />

I made several recipes from the book. I made the Chocolate Chip Cookies, the Squirrel Pie, the Pumpkin Loaf and the lemon loaf. The cookies are a great oaty chocolate chip cookie, the coconut in them is an awesome addition. Everyone loved that part. The squirrel pie was for my Hubby's birthday. I tweaked the recipe a touch because it called to be in a 7 inch spring form pan which I have never seen so I multiplied the crust by 1.5 and put it in a 9 inch pan. It was devoured at a family birthday dinner. The pumpkin loaf I made with gluten free flour so a friend could eat it and it also turned out quite good considering I tweaked the flour which can be very iffy in recipes sometimes.<br />

The final recipe I made was the lemon loaf. Rosie says this recipe is the best seller at her bakery. I can see why. I opted out of the lemon glaze on top and it was still wonderful. It's light and tart and I really enjoyed it.<br />

It is always fun to celebrate a new baby. A fellow Canadian blogger Jan from Family Bites is expecting a baby boy in the next couple weeks so we are throwing her a Virtual Baby Shower.<br />
<br />
I will take lack of sleep, teething and poopy diapers any day if I can cuddle with, laugh at and kiss my little babes. My youngest is almost 7 months now and it has been a blast so far. So I will say I have been blessed with a rather laid back, very chill happy baby. I have 1000 photos to show you how easy I can make her smile. I have even had several moms comment when I go to classes for my older one at how she just sits in her car seat and watches and waits. She barely makes a peep. She has always been a fairly decent sleeper and rarely fussy, even now with her first tooth coming in. I may pay for all of this good behavior later but at least when she is older I can somewhat reason with her (hopefully? maybe? probably not?)<br />
<br />
There is a lot of new precious moments coming up for Jan in the next few weeks, cuddles, smiles, giggles (something I am getting as I write this) and cries. Hopefully she will also get lots of help from her older boys as they learn to take care of their new baby brother. The rule is you can't start tormenting him until he is three. <br />

Apple Carrot Loaf</h2>
(adapted from Huckleberry)<br />
<br />
<i>INGREDIENTS:</i><br />
<ul>
<li>3/4 cup raisins</li>
<li>1/4 cup canola oil</li>
<li>1/2 cup olive oil</li>
<li>3/4 cup granulated sugar</li>
<li>1 tsp salt</li>
<li>3 egg whites</li>
<li>1 tbsp pure vanilla extract</li>
<li>1 1/2 cups (185g) a mix of all purpose flour/whole wheat flours. (I did half and half)</li>
<li>1 1/2 tsp wheat germ</li>
<li>3/4 tsp baking powder</li>
<li>1 1/2 tsp baking soda</li>
<li>2 tsp cinnamon</li>
<li>1 1/2 cups shredded carrots</li>
<li>1/2 cup grated peeled apple</li>
</ul>

Glaze</div>

<li>4 oz cream cheese</li>
<li>1 cup icing sugar</li>
<li>1 tsp pure vanilla extract</li>
<li>2-3 tbsp milk</li>
</ul>

<i>INSTRUCTIONS: </i></div>
<div>
1) Soak the raisins in a cup of warm water for 10 minutes or so. Drain and set aside. </div>
<div>
2) Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease or spray a loaf pan (9x5)</div>
<div>
3) Place all the ingredients into a bowl and mix together. Pour into the pan. </div>
<div>
4) Bake for 50-55 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool in pan. </div>
<div>
5) Make icing : beat cream cheese in a medium bowl, then add icing sugar and vanilla. Beat in milk to thin glaze out a bit. </div>
<div>
6) Remove loaf from pan and spread glaze over top. </div>

You don't have to add the glaze and this loaf is still delicious. I just wanted one. </div>

Last Friday was my annual Mother/Daughter baking day with my Mom, Sister and our daughters. We have been doing this for several years now. It is literally one of my favorite days of the year. Our main baking agenda is butter tarts, which I oddly don't really eat but we do also try and make a few other things. These other things are what I look forward to. Our trick is to come up with a few no bake items to put together while the dozens and dozens of butter tarts are baking. For some reason I love no bake desserts, especially when they are covered in chocolate. <br />
<br />
I recently was given a copy of the cookbook "Gatherings" . A beautiful book by Jan Scott and Julie Van Rosendaal. The book is full of a wide range of different recipes grouped together by occasions, like kids birthday parties, backyard barbecues, pizza parties, date nights, games nights and more. This book has everything appetizers, main courses, desserts, drinks and snacks. It really encompasses a recipe for any gathering you might have. <br />
<br />
Since Mother/Daughter baking day is technically a family gathering I decided it would be great to try a recipe from this book. They also happen to have a perfect no bake recipe, "Aunt Kathy's Peanut Butter Balls". I find you can never really go wrong with peanut butter balls (unless you happen to be allergic to peanut butter). The peanut butter balls in this book are also a bit different, with the addition of dates and walnuts. This gives them a great twist of chewy and crunchy inside. They were of course, delicious and the hubby complained I made him stop eating them so I could take some photos. He can now proceed with eating.<br />

This weekend I have plan to make two more recipes, Potatoes Dauphinoise and a Lemony Kale and Brussels Sprouts salad. There are really just to many wonderful recipes inside to try. Christmas is quickly approaching. Just less than a month, seems a bit crazy doesn't it? As usual I am getting pretty excited and I have started to pull out the decorations and I have 1 of 2 trees up. Decorating the house with two little ones has extended the decorating process for me and it now seems to take a week off and on. I don't really mind, more days of Christmas glee for me. <br />

I am also starting to make my Christmas baking list. Figuring out how many dinners and parties I have, places I will be going, who I can give treats too. It becomes a very lengthy list. It was only three months ago that I woke up and became a teary mess to my own virtual baby shower from my fabulous group of blogging. It was such a special sweet moment for me that when the chance came to repeat that for Christina from <a href="http://strawberriesforsupper.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Strawberries for Supper</a> I couldn't wait to do the same. In the spring the group of us took a trip to Elora, to walk around, have lunch but mainly to buy bread from the Elora Bread Company. We all pretty much walked out of there with a minimum three loaves. They were all delicious. My bread became even better thanks to a jar of honey plum jam from Christina. YUM! Since I know she has mad skills and likes to make her own jams, I thought what better dessert for the shower than one that involves jam. What goes good with jam, Peanut butter of course. Let's consider this the sandwich aspect of the shower. <br />

<b>Peanut Butter and Jelly Bars</b></h2>

INGREDIENTS<br />
<ul>
<li>3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temp</li>
<li>3/4 cup sugar</li>
<li>1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract</li>
<li>2 large eggs, at room temperature</li>
<li>2 cups peanut butter</li>
<li>2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour</li>
<li>1 tsp baking powder</li>
<li>1 tsp salt</li>
<li>1 1/4 cups jam of your choosing</li>
<li>1/2 cups peanuts</li>
</ul>
INSTRUCTIONS:<br />
<br />
1. Preheat your oven to 350F. Grease or spray with non stick a 10 x 10 pan. Line it with parchment paper or tin foil, then grease or spray and flour the pan.<br />
2 In a large bowl or your mixer bowl cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, a couple minutes.<br />
Add the vanilla, eggs, and peanut butter and mix on low until all ingredients are combined.<br />
3. In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the flour mixture to the peanut butter mixture. Mix just until combined.<br />
<br />
Spread 2/3 of the dough into the prepared cake pan and spread over the bottom with a knife or offset spatula. Spread the jam evenly over the dough. Drop small globs of the remaining dough evenly over the jam. Don't worry if all the jam isn't covered; it will spread in the oven. Sprinkle with chopped peanuts and bake for 45 minutes, until golden brown. Cool and cut into squares.<br />

Have you heard of <a href="http://themessybaker.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Messy Baker</a>? She is a fellow Canadian food blogger, who cooks and bakes delicious and beautiful dishes and treats. She also happens to have an amazing cookbook coming out that will tempt you even further. Her book is full of appetizers, mouth watering baked goods and showstopping desserts. This is honestly one of those books where you scroll through and if you were to mark the pages of things you really wanted to make with paper, there would paper flaps hanging out of almost every page. <br />

Several bloggers and I have all gotten together to tease you with some of the wonderful dishes from her book. If you like what you see I highly suggest you put The Messy Baker on list of cookbooks to purchase you will not be sorry.<br />

This recipe for Rhubarb & Raspberry Galette with Fragipane was delightful. The recipe uses one of her versions of No Fail pastry crusts. I did the one with butter and it was so easy and perfectly flaky. Next on my list to make from this cookbook is the Mushroom, Leek and Gruyere Tart or the Cherry and Lemon Macaroon Meringues, which you can see below. <br />

This guy I work with is obsessed with Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. He has had some woes in trying to make his own but he has been content with the President's Choice tube pack. He can cut off two slices, only make two and be happy. Through our lengthy conversations about baking and cookies I have discovered he has no "real" oven. He has a stove top and a counter top toaster oven. It is a fancy one so he can cook a lot of things but I still think this hinders his quest for a perfect cookie. He also has been baking cookies in a cake pan and making giant bars instead of round cookies. I also had to school him on the importance of bringing ingredients to room temperature and was (in my opinion) over baking them.<br />

His quest to make a good cookie, put me on a quest. We got on a discussion about using rolled oats or quick oats. This made me wonder what I preferred and what would make the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Before testing the oats I figured I needed to go to a recipe I knew would be fairly fool proof. I looked at my cookbooks and the big Bouchon Bakery book was standing out over all the others. This recipe will be my starting point.<br />

I took the recipe, made some minor tweaks and made three batches of oatmeal cookies.<br />

Over the course of several days I brought these into work for the guys to taste test. In general the Bouchon Bakery Oatmeal Cookie recipe is solid. One of the best I have tried so far. Every batch came out delicious. The one thing I love about this book is that is has weights along with cups for measurements. I always love to use my scale if I can to be more precise, something that has been rooted in me since pastry school. By the end of our testing, he was dying for the recipe. You think after 3 batches of cookies we all would have been sick of oatmeal cookies but NO. I could have made 3 more batches and eaten them all. After days of him asking for me to post the recipe or take a picture of it, I finally got him the recipe. He then proceeded to ask me if I have seen the big baking book with the cookie sandwich and glass of milk on the cover. I honestly started laughing. "This is where the recipe is from!" All this time he had the recipe sitting on his kitchen counter. Of course it took him several batches for him to still make the cookie as well as I did, but last Tuesday he brought me in some cookies and I was seriously impressed. </div>

So what was our favorite? The guys preferred the all rolled oats cookie while I actually preferred the mixed cookie. The cookie with only quick oats were good but lacked enough texture and well a strong oat flavour. I liked the mixed because it seemed to give a good balance without being to hearty. I will also say that the kosher salt in this recipe is key, it makes such a difference in bringing out the flavour and adds a little hint of salty to the sweet. <br />

I turned some of these cookies into a reveal dessert for some friends and family when we were announcing baby number #2 was a girl. So easy, so cute and who doesn't love cookie sandwiches.<br />

<i>INSTRUCTIONS:</i><br />

In a small bowl combine, flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon and whisk together.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
In a large bowl or mixer bowl beat butter until smooth and whipped. Add sugars and beat together until light, fluffy and well combined.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Scrape down the bowl, (unless you have a beater blade with I highly recommend), add egg and vanilla mixing until just combined.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Add flour mixture in two parts, mixing both on low until almost combined.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Add oats and chocolate chunks and mix on low to just combine.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Refrigerate the dough for a minimum 30 minutes.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Preheat oven to 325F. Using a medium scoop place a round on to a parchment/silpat lined baking sheet.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Bake the cookies for 14-16 minutes, until golden brown. This will get a soft chewy cookie, if you like a harder cookie, cook a few minutes more.

<li class="instruction">
Let cool on a pan a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Store in an airtight container.</li>

<li>Separate out about a 1/4 of the buttercream and colour it to pink or blue. </li>
<li>Place the coloured and plain buttercream into to separate piping bags. </li>
<li>On the bottom center of one cookie, add the coloured buttercream, then circle it with the plain buttercream. </li>
<li>Place another cookie on top , then roll in sprinkles. </li>

Did you get any pregnancy cravings while you were pregnant? I don't remember too many with my first. I did enjoy a few more things that I would have normally ate, like a few more poutines and nachos but otherwise I still ate quite healthy. <br />

For baby #2 it is pretty much the same, I am having a few indulgences but still aiming to stay on track. My craving this time around though is banana baked goods. I could literally eat banana bread every day. Oddly, I am not actually craving real bananas, just banana baked goods. I have never been a pure banana lover. Even now I really only eat the excess of what my little one doesn't it to give baby #2 some potassium.<br />
There is a cafeteria in a building across the street from my work and I swear they make the best banana bread I have EVER had! I can guarantee it is not healthy and potentially soaked in melted butter after it is baked but honestly BEST EVER! It is dangerous really. I hate being late, and yet I feel it is happening more and more. I want to say that when my husband is with me it is more him than me, that or I just haven't mastered the art of packing up with a toddler. He thinks it takes less time to get places than it actually does. I also think he never wants to be on time. He doesn't like to be the first person at places, and I hate to be the last.<br />

This morning I got a call from the midwives asking if I was on my way, and I said "not yet" , apparently I was 10 minutes late for my appointment! AAH! According to my phone my appointment didn't start until for another 40 minutes. Do you know how much this drove me crazy. I hate to be the person that throws off the schedule and makes everyone else late. That is why I hate being late, I don't like making other people late or wasting their time. I rushed over and literally had maybe the fastest appointment ever so I didn't cause to much of a disruption. I booked my next three appointments and actually put the time of the appointment in the subject as I fear daylight savings may have adjusted the date in my phone. This could just be an example of my never ending technology curse.<br />

I have another reveal dessert idea coming but with Easter rapidly approaching I couldn't resist picking up some Chocolate Malt eggs. I love chocolate malt balls in general and these are just so pretty, colorful and fun to use this time of year. <br />

<span class="name">unbleached all purpose flour</span>

<li class="ingredient">
<span class="amount">3/4 cup </span>
<span class="name">cocoa powder</span>
</li>

<span class="amount">1/2 cup</span>
<span class="name">malt powder</span>
</li>
<li class="ingredient">
<span class="amount">1/2 tsp </span>
<span class="name">salt</span>
</li>
<li class="ingredient">
<span class="amount">1/4 tsp </span>
<span class="name">baking soda</span>
</li>
<li class="ingredient">
<span class="amount">1 tsp </span>
<span class="name">baking powder</span>
</li>
<li class="ingredient">
<span class="amount">1/2 cup</span>
<span class="name">unsalted butter</span>
</li>
<li class="ingredient">
<span class="amount">1/2 cup</span>
<span class="name">granulated sugar</span>
</li>
<li class="ingredient">

<span class="name">packed light brown sugar</span>

<span class="name">buttermilk</span>

<span class="name">chopped malt balls/eggs</span>

<span class="amount">4 oz</span>
<span class="name">dark chocolate, chopped</span>

<span class="amount">1/2 cup</span>
<span class="name">heavy cream</span>
</li>

<i>INSTRUCTIONS:</i><br />
<ol class="instructions">
<li class="instruction">
Preheat the oven to 350F. Spray an 8 mini loaf pan with non stick spray or butter.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, malt powder, baking soda/powder and salt and whisk together.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
In a large bowl or mixer bowl , beat butter until whipped. Add both sugars and beat until light and fluffy.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Add each egg, one at a time, beating just a minute.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Add the mashed bananas and mix on low to incorporate.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Add the dry ingredients in 2-3 additions on low until just combined. Add buttermilk and mix until mixed in.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Fold in the chopped malt balls. Divide the batter evenly between the 8 mini loafs.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Bake for 35-40 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Transfer to a rack to cool completely.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
While cooling heat whipping cream in a small sauce pan until simmering. In another bowl place the chopped chocolate, cover with the whip cream and let sit a few minutes. Stir to combine and melt all the chocolate. Let sit a few more minutes and drizzle over the banana loafs and topped with more chopped malt ball eggs.

I mentioned last week one of my favorite things about finding about the sex of the baby is to make reveal desserts to tell people. It is a lot more fun to have people bite into something and find out rather than just telling them. It also drives them nuts that you make them wait until they see you to get a dessert. My goal every time is to try and come up with different ways to tell people though instead of the traditional cake or cupcake. My mind begins to spin on what sort of treat can I sneak a pink or blue center into. <br />

I had a few ideas in my head which you will see in the next post or two but this one was my last minute idea that popped into my head thanks to Pi Day. If you saw my last post - White Chocolate Peanut Butter Pies - I was part of a group of bloggers who got together to celebrate Pi day. One of the pies in the collection was a <a href="http://www.ilovemydisorganizedlife.com/2014/03/coconut-cream-cheese-pie/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Coconut Cream Pie from Rachel @ I love my disorganized life</a>. This gave me an idea, why not sneak in something pink or blue at the bottom of a little tart and then top it with the coconut filling. Perfect.<br />

I couldn't use Rachel's recipe exactly because the eggs are not cooked and knowing I would like to eat it myself I wanted to make sure they were heated so I used a slightly different method. I also was dying to use up some lemon oreos sitting in my cupboard and lemon and coconut is such a great combination I had to try mixing them in somehow.<br />

Coconut Cream Mini Pies with a Lemon Oreo Crust</h2>
<br />
<i>INGREDIENTS:</i><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>10-12 Lemon oreos</li>
<li>3/4 sleeve of graham crackers</li>
<li>2 tbsp corn syrup</li>
<li>2/3 cup butter</li>
</ul>

Filling</div>
<div>
<ul>
<li>1 cup unsweetened coconut</li>
<li>1/2 cup boiling water</li>
<li>1/4 cup granulated sugar</li>
<li>3 tbsp cornstarch</li>
<li>3 tbsp all purpose flour</li>
<li>2 egg yolks</li>
<li>1/2 tsp salt</li>
<li>1 1/2 cup 2% milk</li>
<li>Pink and Blue sprinkles (more of what you need to reveal)</li>
</ul>

<i>INSTRUCTIONS:</i></div>
</div>
<div>
1. Preheat the oven to 350F. </div>
<div>
2.In a small sauce pan , melt together the butter and corn syrup on med-low. Set aside. </div>
<div>
2. In a food processor, blend lemon oreos and graham crackers until processed and fine with no chunks remaining.</div>
<div>
3. Mix together wet and dry mixture until crumbs are all moistened. Divide evenly between 12 muffin cups, lightly greased or using silicone molds. Press to shape into cups. Bake for 8-10 minutes, remove from oven and press down any puffing with the back of a spoon.</div>
<div>
4. While the cups are baking, put the coconut into a small bowl and cover with the boiling water. Let stand. </div>
<div>
5. In another bowl combine sugar, cornstarch, flour, salt and egg yolks, whisk together. </div>
<div>
6. In a medium sauce pan heat milk just to a boil. Remove from heat and slowly whisk in some of the milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly as you pour. Slowly whisk in about half to two thirds of the milk. </div>
<div>
Pour the combined mixture back into the sauce pan with the remaining milk and return to medium heat, whisking constantly until mixture begins to thicken. Remove from heat and continue to whisk out any lumps. </div>
<div>
7. Stir in coconut, cover with saran wrap and let cool in the refrigerator. </div>
<div>
8. Remove the shells from the pan or silicone molds. Place a teaspoon of pink or blue sprinkles in the center of the pie shell, cover with a large scoop of the coconut filling. Top with a few more mixed sprinkles, store in the refrigerator until ready to eat. </div>

Yesterday we found out the sex of baby #2. Of course I am not going to just tell you. I need to make some reveal desserts for friends and family first and then you will find out. It always seems to be such a big debate whether to find out or not? People who wait always say they want the surprise. Just because I want to find out at 20 weeks instead of 40 weeks doesn't mean I am not surprised when I find out. I like to spend those remaining 20 weeks, shopping, getting ready, thinking about names (another big debate in my house). One of the best things about finding out early is shopping for the post season deals, this can be especially true if you having a different sex than you already have.<br>
If the sex is the same well that makes shopping harder to justify but not impossible. Babies clothes are just too cute so no matter what baby #2 is I will be doing some shopping in some form. <br>

I have some sad news. Okay, sad for me, maybe not for most people. One of the my favorite kitchen gadgets is dying. A few pieces have started to break and it is barely hanging on and has lost its vigor. It is the one tool I probably use as much as my mixer. It is so handy, small and quick. I just love it. It is my mini processor attachment to my hand blender. I have had this for years now, so I am hoping I can still find a replacement. New fancier models have come out since this one but I don't need a new one I just need a new base/bowl. Right now the little rod that holds the blade in place doesn't stay in place very well and it can be tricky to even get the lid on. I am also just worried I am going to lose the little rod, since I almost have twice and my mind is baby mush. I have tried to find it online but of course shipping it to Canada is not going to be an easy task. I will figure out a way to get my replacement bowl, I must. I need my mini processor!<br>

Most Fridays we go out for dinner, myself, hubby and the little one. Tonight we will not. Even though we go out fairly early because of the little one, most places will just get too busy, loud and potentially overpriced. As well behaved as she is most times, I don't want that one time she isn\t to be tonight as no one wants a fussy toddler ruining their romantic dinner. So just in case, tonight we will order in, and stay cozy. <br />
<br />
The hubs and I have never really gone too over the top for Valentines Day. Neither of us need anything, so other than some flowers, chocolates or a tub of his favorite ice cream, we keep it low key. Better to save our money for more important things. More money saved means I can finally convince him to get an SUV to make room for our expanding family. <br />
<br />
Oh right! I haven't told you yet. <i><b>Baby #2 is on the way, making its arrival late July.</b></i> We are very excited and getting ready for some busy times ahead. Our little ones will be 20 months apart so there will be a lot going on. Even the next few months will be busy moving around some bedrooms, office and workout equipment to make room for Baby #2. I will definitely need to find a big win of energy now and then. For now I will have to run on adrenaline since caffeine is not a pregnant ladies friend. Post baby these brownies might have to the kick I will need, and at least they have some fruit in them.<br />

Preheat the oven to 350F. Spray a 9 inch springform pan.
</li>

Place the chocolate and butter in a bowl over a double boiler. Stirring off and on to melt together. Once completely melted remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Whisk in the sugar. Then whisk in the eggs, one at a time.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Add vanilla and whisk in.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Add flour, salt, espresso powder and baking soda. Fold in until partially combined.

Add strawberries and white chocolate.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Using a spatula, scrape the batter into the spring form pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes and a skewer comes out clean. Remove from oven, let cool.

<li class="instruction">Make icing : Beat cream cheese and butter in a medium bowl using a spatula.</li>
<li class="instruction">
Add icing sugar, one cup at a time, beating in with spatula.
</li>
<li class="instruction">
Using an offset spatula spread over the brownies. Top with sprinkles.

Are you an Olympic watcher? I like the Olympics and I like to hear what happened but I can't watch it a lot. Especially live. If I already know what happened I am okay but I find watching it not knowing so nerve racking and intense. I am a flipper, I go back and forth because I can't watch how things turn out I just like to know the outcome. For most of us we will have no comprehension of what it is like to compete in something that huge and I just feel for everyone who doesn't get a medal and excited for everyone that does. </div>

The Olympics definitely are exciting, I will just watch most of it through the wrap up on the nightly news or see my friends updates on facebook. </div>

Take the Superbowl for example. This I can watch because it is just fun even if I barely watch a game all year. Obviously someone has to win and someone has to lose but I always find it so sad for those who don't win. You see the players sitting on the benches, sometimes tearing up, looking so upset they didn't pull out the win. That is clearly how sports are supposed to work, I get it, just tough to watch I guess.</div>

Valentine's day is quickly approaching. Along with Easter, I love desserts around Valentines day because they are often prettier, include fruits and/or are heart shaped. How can you not love things heart shaped? Heart shape= love=happy. Since these special Raspberry Kisses came out special for Valentines day I figured I must figure out a way to bake with them for a pre-valentines day treat. </div>

So far I have survived my first couple weeks back at work. The little one loves her daycare which has made this transition easy. The hubby drops her off and she is simply "Bye Bye Dada" No tears, just runs to play. She is making new friends, getting active and getting tired out. I think my favorite part of my day is when I pick her up and she smiles and runs for a hug. (Insert heart melting). It's just so sweet. <br>
<br>
I was worried about coming back after a year, thinking I wouldn't remember how to do things and how to use the system. We had just implemented a new system the year I was leaving and there were so many changes and a lot of learning. I did pick up the system pretty quickly as I was pretty heavily involved with its transition and creating new report so I knew I had a good base in my head some where. I also conducted several training sessions before I left to help others get up to speed. Still, a year of not even looking at it had me worried. <br>
Turns out, I was worried for nothing. After a week of being back it honestly felt like I never left. Everything I had ever done just came back to me. A bonus, because I had to rebuild several reports after a year of system tweaks and changes caused them not to work anymore. Three weeks in now and despite a lack of sleep I am grooving along. <br>

Brown Butter People! Brown butter in my opinion is a form of liquid gold. Just the smell of it is so wonderful. Nutty and rich, Drool! It requires way more experimentation than I have tried thus far.<br>

I have made brown butter cookies before and honestly they are worth making again and again.<br>

I AM BACK!<br>

I took a bit of a blogging hiatus over the holidays. I have spent the last 13 months on mat leave. I got to spend it playing, cuddling and
enjoying every minutes with my daughter.
We took two sets of swimming lessons, baby Picasso, mom and baby workout
and yoga and tons of play dates with
other friends. 2013 was an amazing year
and I was honestly a little sad come new years eve it was ending. 2014 though is going to bring a whole new
set of adventures.<br>

As of January 6, I
had to return to work. Which is not bad
but the reason for my hiatus. I wanted to spend my last few weeks before going
back just enjoying the holidays and spending time with my family. Now that we are here in the new year I am
looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. I honestly feel like I am in baking and blog
withdrawal. There are so many things I
want to bake and share with you. I also
have so many blogs to go catch up on.
The good thing about being back at work is I can also bake up a storm
and not worry as much about having all these tempting desserts at my house, I
can now bring things into work. I am
giving my co-workers so additional winter insulation. </div>

I love this cookie because it is so quick. I am all about being efficient now that my time has been cut by 8 hours a day. I am going to have to do some serious planning this year in all aspects of my life, food, blogging, time, cleaning, money. It should be fun. </div>

Oh right, I am food blogger. I am supposed to be bringing you delicious desserts a lot more often than I have been. Weekends away, Christmas parties, shopping, a sick little one etc etc have seem to gotten in the way. <br>

These cookies were actually meant for a neighbour in exchange for a favor while we were away for a few days. Unfortunately he never got the message from his son and never got the cookies. Instead they were were sent to my husbands work for a potluck party. Still well enjoyed. <br>

I stopped into my work this past week to discuss my return post mat leave. While there they happened to mention that there has been a significant decline in work treats since I left. They seem pretty excited to have me back. Not sure if it is for the treats or for my work but I suspect they are hoping for a new increase in desserts. I don't mind, bringing treats into work means less I eat and more experimenting. *Sneaky, Sneaky*<br>

I have spent the last three days decorating my house for the holidays. I love when my house is all decorated. I love my Christmas trees, well one more than other. Yes, I have two. One is 9 ft tall, only red, white and silver. My other one is about 6 ft and is gold, green and red. The later was basically my husbands tree before me, that I have expanded and improved. My red and white tree is my baby. I could stare at it forever. Last year we used it as distraction when the little one was crying. For some reason though I feel like it has more holes than normal. The only good solution, buy more decorations, of course.<br>

I went to the Season's Christmas Show on Friday and this is the first year I didn't buy anything. Nothing seemed to jump out at me like normal. I saw a few decorations that were maybes but I decided to wait. This weekend we are going to Ottawa and another blogger I know from Ottawa was kind enough to tell me about <a href="http://www.tinseltownchristmasemporium.com/" target="_blank">Tinsel Town</a>. This store might be solution to fill the tree, it looks like a Christmas wonderland. I am very picky about my ornaments though. It must go with my themes and well I obviously just have to like it. Nothing overly flashy.<br>

So for the last two years I have done 12 days of Christmas cookies. It is never 12 days straight in a row but I aim to get 12 cookies done from the beginning of December to now. Last year I didn't even finish. My little one was only weeks old and I totally dropped the ball. Since I feel I am slacking with giving my readers some recipes I am going to try again.
